CHERYL PAYNE, Earlham

Cheryl A. Payne, 66, of Earlham died Dec. 11, 2009, of complications of Lupus disease at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 14, at the Church of Christ in Earlham with the Rev. Steve Allison officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter, Redfield and Earlham.

Cheryl Payne was born Aug. 28, 1943, in Redfield to Clifford and Betty (Baker) Countryman and was a 1961 graduate of Redfield High School. Her marriage to Truman Payne took place Aug. 1, 1964, at the Redfield Methodist Church. Cheryl had worked at the Earlham Vet Clinic and Excel Business Supply in West Des Moines. She served for many years on the Earlham Library Board, was a member of the Earlham Church of Christ and was part of the original church youth jam sessions.

She was preceded in death by her father and a granddaughter, Kara Payne.

She is survived by her husband, Truman, of Earlham; two daughters, Tara Aquino of Earlham and Traci Lendt of Des Moines; two sons, Eric Payne of Jewell and Nathan Payne of Earlham; her mother, Betty Countryman of Redfield; three sisters, Bonnie Hogan of Redfield, Linda DeReus of Earlham, and Peggy Chisom of Holt, Mo.; three brothers, Denny Countryman of West Des Moines, Derry Countryman of Redfield, and Brian Countryman of Grand Island, Neb.; and seven grandchildren.
