Harold Eugene "Gene" Dowler, 66, of Dickinson, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2005, at his residence.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 26, 2 p.m. until 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City. Additional services will be in Salem, Virginia, at Lotz Funeral Home. Burial will follow. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the First Christian Church in Texas City at a date to be announced later.

Mr. Dowler was born October 1, 1938, in Winterset, Iowa. He was a Captain in the U. S. Air Force (retired) and a college professor. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Texas City.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Janet Dowler, of Dickinson; son, Michael Dowler and wife, Annette, of Salem, Virginia; daughter, Patricia Dowler of League City; grandsons Joshua Dowler and Dustin Dowler; mother-in-law Frances Branum; brother-in-law Jerry Branum; numerous other relatives and friends.

Harold Eugene Dowler, of Dickenson, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at the age of 66. Gene (as he was known to his family and friends) was born on October 1, 1938 in Winterset, Iowa, the only son of Harold Leo Dowler and Lucile Robinson.

While serving a 20+ year career in the U.S. Air Force attaining the rank of Captain, he met, married and is now survived by his wife of 45 years of marriage to Janet Lunell Branum, of Roanoke, Va. (and Janet's mother, Frances Munsey Branum and brother, Jerry Lee Branum).

After retiring from the Air Force, Gene first went to work in the computer sciences field and eventually landed in education as an instructor at educational institutions as Maryland's Prince Georges Community College and Montgomery College as well as the University of Maryland.

In 1992, Gene and Janet moved to Dickenson, Texas. While there, Gene took a greater interest in Janet's love, the Home Interior and Gifts, Inc. business and he became a leading worker at its Houston distribution center.

Gene is also survived by his two children, daughter, Patricia Leigh Dowler of League City, Texas and son, Michael Eugene Dowler of Salem, Virginia (along with Michael's wife, Annette Marie Dillman.) He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan, Abbie and Dustin as well as numerous other family members and relatives. His presence will be greatly missed by one and all.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2005 at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev., George Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
