GERALD L. PORTER, Winterset

Gerald L. “Jerry” Porter, 77, of Winterset passed away Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First United Presbyterian Church with burial at the Peru Cemetery in Peru. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 3–8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.

Jerry was born on Nov. 26, 1932, in Madison County, Iowa, to Lyle and Opal (Davis) Porter. He graduated from Winterset High School and then served four years in the United States Air Force. He retired in 1997 as vice president of Demco, Inc., in West Des Moines after 36 years of employment. Jerry married Norma J. Culbertson on Sept. 6, 1964. They had resided in Johnston for several years, moving to the rural Peru area in 1978, then to Winterset in November of 2003. Jerry enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing, traveling, watching sports, and yard work.

He is survived by his wife, Norma; daughter, Vicki (Dave) Bush of Winterset; son, Scott Porter of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Trey Bush and Kailey Bush of Winterset; sister, Phyllis Stevens of West Des Moines; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to Middle River Hospice.
