SHIRLEY M. STOWELL, Winterset

Shirley M. Stowell, 76, of Winterset died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Shirley was born in Adair County. She was married to Don Stowell in 1951 and lived in Greenfield, Iowa, Canton, Ill., and Wausau, Wis. She returned to Iowa in 1966 with her husband, Don, to raise their family in Winterset and lived there for the remainder of her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winterset and was a regular volunteer at the Madison County Memorial Hospital.

Shirley is survived by her two children, Duane Stowell of Oskaloosa, Iowa, and Diane Pettit of Wake Forest, N.C.; three brothers, Richard Piper of Portland, Ore., Robert Piper of Cypress, Texas, and Dean Piper of Bellevue, Wash.; and three grandchildren, Dylan Stowell of Ames, Iowa, Lauren Pettit of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Blake Pettit of Wake Forest, N.C.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, at the First Baptist Church. The family will be there from 3–5 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
