Leota M. Thompson, 87, of Winterset died Nov. 27, 2009, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with the Rev. Dr. Beverlee Bell officiating. Burial was at Green Lawn Cemetery in Afton. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
Leota Thompson was born Nov. 9, 1922, in Afton to Neal and Ethel (Shepherd) White. Her marriage to Theodore James Thompson took place July 15, 1944, in Creston. Leota, a homemaker, briefly taught school after graduating from high school. She had been a resident of Winterset from 1962 to 1973, when she moved to New Virginia. She returned to Winterset in 1984. Leota’s memberships included the Pythian Sisters and the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Roger Thompson; three brothers, Willard White, Louis White and Kenneth White; and a sister, Shirley Shields.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Thompson of Winterset and Hal Thompson of Des Moines; three sisters, Donna Faye McKnight of Osceola, Marjorie Kennedy of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lola Brown of Salem, Mo.; and three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
