Vi Osborn, 88, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family.
Vi was born Jan. 21, 1921, in Mason City, Iowa, to Samuel and Hilda Foster. Her family moved to Eagle Grove a few years later and Vi graduated from there in 1939.After high school graduation, Vi moved to Winterset. She worked as a waitress at the Northside Café and later met her future husband, Tim, who worked at the Club Café. They were married July 21, 1940, in Princeton, Mo. They purchased the Club Café located on the east side of the square in 1949 and together owned and operated the restaurant until Tim’s passing in 1976. Vi later worked at the Ben Franklin store before retiring.
Vi was a charter member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, with continuous membership since 1947. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. During local and national elections, she worked at polling locations helping citizens vote. Vi enjoyed her retirement years with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Vi is survived by her son Scott (Kathy) of Ankeny; daughters Karna (Pat) Dougherty of Madrid and Shelley Dickinson of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Osborn of Urbandale; and seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one stepgranddaughter. Vi was preceded in death by her husband Tim, son Gary, and a granddaughter, Kayleigh Mae Dickinson.
A memorial service was held at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 2. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a future designation.
