DILLARD PAXTON, Creston

Dillard Ivan Paxton, 83, of Creston died Nov. 18, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 23, at Salem Lutheran Church in Creston with the Rev. Ben McIntire officiating. Inurnment was held Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, with military honors by Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post 1797 and Fred N. Davis Lorimor American Legion Post 96. Arrangements were handled by Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service in Creston. Memorial contributions may be directed to the PKD Foundation. Dillard Paxton was born June 19, 1926, in rural Clarinda (Page County) to Joseph Ray and Minnie Mary (Meyers) Paxton and was a 1943 graduate of Lorimor High School. His marriage to Lois Jane Steen took place Sept. 5, 1945, in Missouri. Dillard served in the United States Navy during World War II from June 25, 1945, until July 16, 1946. He lived for most of his life in the Lorimor area. He moved to Texas in 1981 and resided in College Station, Texas, before moving to Creston two years ago. Dillard operated a hog buying station in Lorimor with his dad. He purchased the Standard Station and Tank Wagon Service. He also installed furnaces, did crop spraying, and worked in Des Moines from 1971 until 1980. Prior to moving to Texas, he lived in Arizona for a year. While in Texas, he was employed as a sheet metal worker for Texas A & M University (HVAC Systems) until his retirement in 1991. Dillard was a former member of the Lions Club. He also was a member of the Lorimor American Legion Fred N. Davis Post 96, and the Salem Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marlene Burdick, and a sister, Maxine Witt.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, of Creston; three daughters, Marcha Cox of Ft. Davis, Texas, and Melinda Siefkas and Marchelle Camp, both of Peru; one son, Tony Chinnah of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Duane Paxton of Pace, Fla.; a sister, Pauline Spencer of Winterset; and six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
