LOGAN BUTCHER, Blencoe

Logan Junior “Butch” Butcher, 82, of Blencoe died Nov. 19, 2009, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 23, at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe with military honors conducted by the United States Army, Monona County V.F.W. Post 2694, and American Legion Stevens Kelly Post 665.

Logan Butcher was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Decatur City to Fred and Helen (Bright) Butcher. As a young boy, he moved with his family to a farm near Osceola. Then in 1940, they moved to Peru. Logan joined the United States Army in 1945 and served in several countries and during three wars until his retirement in 1965. After his discharge from the service, he moved near Onawa and was an automobile mechanic for 14 years. Logan also worked for James Alexander in the fall for 17 years. His marriage to Evelyn Conway Sarff took place in August of 1966. The couple moved to Blencoe and owned and operated a filling station until his retirement in 1990. Following Evelyn’s death, he later married Darlene (Corn) Archer of Moorhead on Dec. 26, 1993, and resided in Blencoe. Logan was a life member of Monona County V.F.W. Post 2694 of Onawa, where he was a post commander general for years, American Legion Stevens Kelly Post 665 in Blencoe, and the Blencoe United Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn; two stepsons; four brothers, Bobbie, Darrell, Donald, and Jackie; and a sister, Marie Sivard.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Blencoe; six stepchildren; four sisters, Sally Brobst of Warsaw, Mo., Mary Anderson of Ashland, Neb., Iva Laird of Whitefield, Okla., and Eva Funkhouser of Chappell, Neb.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
