Maria Barrus Death

Mrs. Maria A. Barrus, who had been ill since last Friday with bronchitis and high blood pressure, died yesterday afternoon about 4:30 at the home of her son, Charles Barrus. She was 80 years old and had been in good health until a few days ago.

The deceased was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, and came to this county 53 years ago.

She is survived by five children, Mrs. Anna Ward of Washington D. C., Eugene L. of Staples, Minnesota, William of Omaha, and Charles and Ella of Winterset.

No definite funeral arrangements have as yet, been made.

Mrs. D. B. Barrus, wife of Daniel B. Barrus, deceased, was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, February 4th, 1846, and passed away at the home of her son, Charles A. Barrus, November 3, in Winterset.

At an early age she moved with her parents to Muscatine, Iowa, where she resided until her marriage to Mr. Barrus on February 12th, 1874. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Anna Louise Ward of Washington, D. C.; Miss Ella May Barrus of Winterset; Eugene L. of Staples, Minnesota; William L. of Omaha; Charles A. of Winterset; and Lucy A. Barrus, who departed this life February 5th, 1912.

She was a devoted member of the Trinity Mission church of Winterset, a loving mother, always looking on the bright side of life, never complaining, and was loved by all who knew her.

Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her loss, two sisters, eighteen grandchildren and a host of friends and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. Z. Allen at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, November 6th, at Tidrick’s funeral home.
