The earthly life of Simon Clayton Carver began May 30th, 1871, near Truro, Ia. Death came to his home in Chicago June 9th, 1903 and touched his beating heart with icy fingers and stilled his life in this world forever.

He was married to Miss Rosa Ellis Oct. 18, 1891. To this union were born two daughters and one son, who with the widow, and aged father, five brothers, one sister and a host of friends survive him.

He graduated from Rush Medical College in the spring of 1900 and took up the practice of his profession in Murray, Iowa, then returned to Chicago in the spring of 1901 and continued his practice until his death.

He joined the M.E. church in early boyhood and lived a faithful Christian life. During his short time of six years in Chicago he established a large influence of good to his community and church, being a member of the board of trustees and S. S. teacher in the St. Paul M. E. church of that city. We are again called upon to pause for a time in the midst of our daily duties and kind loving remembrance, to pay a tribute of respect and love to the memory of a friend and brother. It is sad to think that a life so good, so useful and bright should ever close. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. He loved this beautiful world and had faith in the hereafter, and died without a thought of fear, bearing a sweet message from this world to those who should greet him in the great beyond.

The funeral was held at the M. E. church in East Peru, conducted by Rev. S. C. Howe of the Friends’ church, assisted by Rev. W. C. Wilkins of the M. E. church at East Peru. The services were then taken in charge by the Masonic order of which he was a member. His body was laid to rest in the Ebenezer cemetery.
