Mention was made in our last issue of the death of David Hockett. Below we give his obituary. The funeral service was held in the Friends church on last Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. J. W. Stribling, and the remains were laid at rest in Earlham cemetery.

David Hockett, son of Stephen and Mary Hockett, was born in Randolph county, Ind., November 26, 1830. He came to Henry county, Iowa, with his parents in 1837, thus being among the earliest settlers of this state. He had a birthright in the Friends church, but some fifty years ago he left that organization for about six years, during which time he affiliated with the Baptists. He then returned to the Friends church, of which he was a member at the time of his death. All his life he lived a consistent Christian life.

On September 16, 1852, he was married to Mary J. Hanks. To this union was born four sons and two daughters, two sons passing away in infancy. They also had an adopted daughter, P. L. Brown. The wife and mother died June 30, 1897. He was married a second time to Hannah Wilson on August 18, 1898. He came to what is now Earlham in 1865, and he resided in this community until his death, which occurred at his home on the morning of June 2, 1903. He was 72 years, 6 months and 7 days old.
