September 1931Obituary - Mrs. Augusta Beeber
Mrs. Augusta Bertha Wendeler was born in Germany Sept. 25, 1856. At the age of 16 years she came with her sister to America locating at Chicago. There on Jan. 27, 1876, she was united in marriage to C. H. Beeber and this growing American city was home to them for the next six years. To this union five children were born, Edward, Pauline, Minnie, Henry and Bertha.
In the spring of 1882, the family moved to Madison county, Iowa, and the next year they moved to Dodge township, Union county. Here for the next 37 years, through joys and sorrows, sunshine and shadows, toil and triumphs Mr. and Mrs. Beeber labored together for the comforts of their family and betterment of the community. On Sept. 25, 1912, Mr. Beeber was called to the great beyond and for the next five years, his devoted wife remained on the home place.
Mrs. Beeber was a loyal and devoted wife and mother, a true and helpful friend and neighbor, who for the sheer joy of serving humanity gave herself unreservedly to the care of the sick and ministering to the needs of the students at the Iowa National Bible Training School at Des Moines since leaving the old home in Dodge township in 1917. When not helping those in need she has made her home for the past 14 years with her daughter, Mrs. Bertha Porter in Union county.
Mrs. Beeber departed this life Aug. 30, 1931, at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 5 days, leaving to mourn her departure her children, Edward Beeber, of Colorado, Mrs. Pauline Bittner, of Burlinton, Mrs. Minnie Porter, of Cromwell, Henry Beeber, of Barronett, Wisc., Mrs. Bertha Porter, of Creston; eleven grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Z. M. Bressler, of Nevinville in the Jerusalem church Tuesday at 2 p.m. A mixed quartet composted of Mrs. Arthur Herbel, Mrs. Glen Hardman, Tom Henry and Elmo Harkness very beautifully rendered "Going Down The Valley", Jesus, Lover of My Soul" and "It Is Well With My Soul."
Grandsons served as pallbearers. Burial was in the Macksburg cemetery. Those who performed this last sad service were Earl and Charles Beeber, of Marshalltown, Frank Porter, of Creston and Clarence, Carl and Paul Porter, of Cromwell.
