A Young Man of Much Promise is Stricken Down in the Prime of Life.
James E. Padmore, whose illness has been mentioned in these columns during the two weeks past died last Friday evening. Everything that kind hands and medical skill could accomplish was of no avail and the spark of life went out from one who was universally loved and who today is universally mourned. Jim, as we want to call him was born at LeMars, Ia., in 1878. He came to Winterset in 1899 and entered the employ of E.E. McCall as an abstracter. One year ago he engaged in similar work with the Alexander Abstract Co. and was in their employ at the time of his death. He was a young man who made friends with all who knew him. He was capable in business, courteous and kind hearted and his untimely death has called forth expressions or sorrow and regret from many.
The funeral services were held from the home of W. S. Whedon on Sunday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Winterset cemetery. Rev. J. H. White conducted the services, Company G. of the Iowa National Guards and the Winterset Fire Department of which the deceased was a member attended in a body. He was a member of the Congregationalist Church of LeMars, his former home and he is survived by his mother, two sisters and one brother, all living at Marshalltown, Iowa.
