Mrs. Josephine Martin, a lifetime resident of Madison County, died at Madison Manor North here last Saturday , October 26, 1974. She was 96 years of age, and had been in poor health for several weeks.
Mrs. Martin was born in Madison County on January 2, 1876, the daughter of Charles and Lucy Walker McCleeary. She was married to Bert Burd in 1895, and was preceded in death by him. In 1900, she was married to Grant Martin of Patterson, who also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Martin was affiliated with the Patterson Methodist Church. A housewife, she also served as Postmistress at Patterson for 17 years. She was a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors.
Survivors include two daughters: Lucille B. (Mrs. Ray) Vannatta of Winterset and Mae (Mrs. Harry) Linn of Des Moines; and two sons; Charles A. Martin of Winterset and Robert Martin of Patterson. Also surviving are two stepchildren: Anna (Mrs. Carl) Brown and Harrison Martin, both of Winterset.
Other survivors include four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred McCleeary of Carlisle; and a sister, Margaret Scarborough of San Bernardino, California.
Funeral services were held at l:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 29 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, with the Dr. Paul Hann officiating. Burial was in the Montpelier Cemetery at Patterson.
