Tis with sadness we record the death of a fellow citizen. Ira Shearer, who for a number of years has done business in his quiet unassuming way, was suddenly called to the life beyond. He received a scratch on the hand from a cork screw about a week before his death, blood poison set in and baffled the skill of physicians and friends. He was buried on Saturday in the Peru cemetery.

The funeral services were held at his late home conducted by Rev. Blood. His mother, brothers and sisters, of Winterset and one sister of Des Moines attended the funeral.
