Passed Away

Died, at her home in Monroe township, July 19, 1901, Mrs. Sarah Bullock: aged 56 years, 10 months and 27 days. Funeral services occurred Sunday at 2:30 p.m., and the remains were taken for interment to the family cemetery.

Sarah Alexander was born in Jackson county, Iowa, August 22, 1844. She moved with her parents from Jackson county, Iowa, to Mercer county, Mo., in 1857, and from Mercer county to Madison county, Iowa, in 1856. She being the eldest of ten in family, a great share of the household duties fell upon her. These duties she cheerfully assumed and successfully conducted while she remained under the parental roof.

She joined the Baptist church at the age of 17 and has since lived the life of an earnest Christian.

She was married to Manvil Bullock October 23, 1870, he having preceded her death two years. She was the mother of two children—Elbert and Roy,--Roy dying at the age of four years.

Her illness was of a short duration. When the summons came she was willing to go. She said she was not afraid to die, knowing whom she had always leaned upon. She was a woman without reproach and loved by many.

The funeral services were held at her home, Rev. S. J. Callison officiating, assisted by Rev. Eveland. The yard was filled to its utmost limits by a large audience of friends and neighbors who were present to express their sympathy for the living and their respect and love for the deceased. As we saw her only son and her aged mother bening over the open grave, we said, “Thank God for a noble life and a sweet and fragrant memory.” May her life be an inspiration to many.
