Vera Young, 95, of Winterset died Sept. 13, 2009, at Winterset Care Center North.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday, Sept. 16) at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset with the Revs. Dr. Beverlee Bell and Bill Branson officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
Vera Young was born July 25, 1914, in Paxton, Neb., to Wilson and Emma (Schultz) Jennings. Her marriage to Earl Young took place Feb. 22, 1931, in Madison County. She had been a resident of Madison County since the age of 14 and had lived in Winterset since 1981. Vera had been a homemaker and also assisted her husband on the farm. She also had been a member of the former West Star Methodist Church and currently attended the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Donald Young; three brothers, Vern Jennings, Buck Jennings, and Stanley Jennings; and two great-grandchildren, Ben Payne and Josh Cook.
She is survived by her children — Barb Young, Enolia Buck and Bill Young, all of Winterset, Sheryl Griffith of Seattle, Wash., and Edward Young of Glenwood; brothers and sisters — Robert Jennings of Sherman, Texas, Mary Crain and Deane Brock, both of Moberly, Mo., Glen Jennings of Eugene, Ore., Twila Wharton of Minneapolis, Minn., and Ilene Dodge of Columbia, Mo.; and 19 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
