HELEN N. (FLINN) KERR, Winterset

Helen N. (Flinn) Kerr, 76, died September 10, 2009 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Per her wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa, College of Medicine. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 14, at the Winterset United Methodist Church.

Helen was born December 1, 1932 in Waukee, Iowa to Raymond and Bessie (Keltner) Flinn. She married Bartly Kerr on March 26, 1955 and moved to a farm near Greenfield. Bart preceded her in death in January, 1986 and Helen continued to live in their home until about two years ago when she moved to Winterset.

She worked for many years providing loving care and comfort to the elderly in their homes and also worked at the Congregate Meal Site in Greenfield. With a strong spirit and determination, she persevered and overcame many hardships and physical disabilities, and lived a life that was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Helen is survived by five sisters, Irene Wilcox (Reuben Peterson) of Madrid, Pauline Gubser (David Hester) of Sun City, Arizona, Marcella Emery of Parma, Idaho, and Alice Hoffman (Russell) of Perry; 22 nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred Keltner and Walter Flinn; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and a nephew.

Helen requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be directed to the Winterset United Methodist Church, the Hebron/Lorimor/ Macksburg United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Helen loved music, and freed from the limitations of her physical body we know that she is singing and dancing with the angels. We wish her peace.
