Harriet Amanda Dunaway was born near Glasgow, Ky., Jan. 27, 1842 and departed this life at her home near Barney, Aug. 11, 1925, aged 83 years, 6 months, and 15 days.
When about 12 years of age, she moved with her parents to Marion county, Iowa, where on Jan. 1, 1860, she was untied in marriage to Antipas Simpson, who preceded her in death Jan. 5, 1921. To this union were born 11 children, two daughters dying in infancy; one son, George, passed away May 7, 1900. The remaining children are Mrs. Lydia Rhone and Mrs. Mary Waugh of Barney; Robert Simpson of Colona, Colo.; William of Churchville, John of Lorimor, Elias of Winterset, Thomas of Earlham and Mrs. Hattie Kerp of Boseman, Mont., all of whom were present at the funeral except Robert.
Besides her children, Mrs. Simpson leaves to mourn her loss, two sisters, Mrs. Martha Styne of Monroe and Mrs. Charlotte Tanner of Missouri; also two brothers, James Dunaway of North Dakota and Jesse Dunaway of Lytton; 24 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Thirty-six years ago last February, Mr. and Mrs Simpson moved to Madison county, locating on the farm where they continued to reside until their death. In early life, Mrs. Simpson united with the Baptist church, and continued loyal and steadfast in the faith until the end.
Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Barney, Aug. 12th, conducted by Rev. O. E. Cooley of Lorimor. Interment at the Barney cemetery.
