Death of C. F. Allgeyer

Charles F. Allgeyer died on Sunday, August 25th, at his home in Winterset, after a long struggle with disease. Funeral services were conducted at St. Joseph’s church on Tuesday morning by Rev. J. C. White.

Mr. Allgeyer’s parents came to Madison county in 1867, when he was a youth of about 17 years. The family came overland and purchased a farm, largely unbroken soil, in Douglas township. Here Mr. Allgeyer lived until his marriage nine years later, and learned from his father to be a practical and successful farmer and stock raiser. In later years, he became a stock buyer and shipper of excellent judgment, retiring from active farm life nine years ago, and has since made his home in Winterset. He had valuable lands in Douglas, as well as interests in the First National bank of Winterset.

He married Miss Ellen Rogan in 1876, who survives him with her five children: Mrs. Minnie Wilheim, Mrs. Vergie Monaghan, Otis, Lloyd and Joe, all of Madison county, the latter two being in government service.

Mr. Allgeyer will be greatly missed in Winterset, for a residence of over fifty years in one community can never be entirely proliferated from that community. There are individual characteristics which stand out in strong relief. Geniality, generosity, friendliness and good business qualities will not soon be forgotten by the scores of people who knew him intimately.

Note: Burial was made in the Stringtown cemetery.
