George Nelson Grout was born in Winterset, Jan 1, 1910. He was a loving and obedient son and always a delight and joy to his parents. He was faithful and honest in his school work, and when he lead in prayer in his Sunday school class, it was always with sincerity and earnestness.
During the last six weeks of his life he was called upon to experience great pain and suffering, which he bore with patience and fortitude. The end came at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines where he passed away on Thursday morning, Sept. 21st, 1922 at the age of 12 years, 8 months and 21 days. He is the first of his family to be called away.
He leaves his great grandfather, G. W. Haynes of Saint Charles; his grandmothers, Mrs. G. M. Grout of Winterset, and Mrs. George Buchanan of Curtiss, Wis.; his father and mother, Ray M. and Ida Buchanan Grout and his two brothers, Russell E. and John B. Grout and many relatives and friends. All who knew him loved him for his many qualities of character and worth. His young life was filled wih bright promises which will be fulfilled in a better world.
The funeral services were held at his home in Winterset, Saturday afternoon, Sept. 23, with interment in the Winterset cemetery. The sermon was preached by Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. At the Sunday school hour the following morning, a tribute was paid to his memory, with a memorial address which was given by Harry Tidrick, the teacher of his class in the Sunday school.
