J.D. Hawn was a resident of Dallas county and passed from earth's life Friday, July 2, 1915 at his home near Adel. He was born in Pennsylvania, April 26, 1847, and was aged 63 years, 2 months and 6 days. When a child he moved with his parents to Illinois and when about 21 moved to Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life, most of the time in Madison county; until the last few years which he spent in Dallas county. He was married to Alice E Reynolds, December 29, 1873. Six children were born to this union; Austin R. of Adel; William F. of Polk City; Mrs Mary Davidson of Winterset; Mrs Zilpha Eldridge of Des Moines; Warren W. and Milow D. of Adel.

He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, six children, 11 grandchildren, two brothers, Calvin of Spencer, Iowa and Isaac of Macksburg, Iowa, and a host of friends. The funeral occurred at Waukee Sunday afternoon, July 4th, and interment in the Waukee cemetery.
