MARTHA HAMMANS, LORIMOR

Martha Lilly Hammans, 87, of Lorimor and formerly of Winterset, died June 16, 2009, at her son’s home near Lorimor.

A private gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Winterset Public Library. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.

Martha (Fosher) Hammans was born April 6, 1922, in Madison County to Hubert C. and Alma (Johnston) Fosher. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1940 and continued her education at Coe College in Cedar Rapids where she received a business certificate. Her marriage to Jack Hammans took place on Aug. 3, 1946. Aside from her many years as a homemaker and farm wife, Martha taught piano for 30 years from her home. She also worked for West Bridge Care Center in Winterset for 13 years. Martha was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset where she sang in the choir. She also was a member of the Sunshine Club in Monroe Township.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Nancy Hammans.

She is survived by one son, Paul Hammans of Lorimor; a sister, Betty Canfield of Hudson, Ohio; and two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
