Joy R. Croat, 67, Kearney, Missouri, died September 1, 1996, at Liberty Hospital. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 4, 1996, at the St. James Catholic Church in Liberty; burial in Resurrection Cemetery, Kansas City North, Missouri. Friends may call 7 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the Church-Archer-Pasley Chapel in Liberty, where a prayer service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Mrs. Croat was born in Adair, Iowa, on April 8, 1929, to James Porter and Fern (Faye) Porter. She grew up in Winterset, Iowa, and lived in this area for 41 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Liberty. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of The Purple Heart. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Ed W. Croat, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, John and Gail Croat, Liberty, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Roy Furne, Kearney, Missouri; three grandchildren, Cody, J. Ed, and Kristy Furne, Kearney, Missouri; and brother, James Porter, Winterset, Iowa.
