CLARE SAWYERS Service Friday

Clare Sawyers, a life-time resident of Madison County, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1972, at his home in Winterset, after an extended period of failing health. He was 72 years of age.

Mr. Sawyers was the oldest son of Andrew and May Pope Sawyers, and was born Sept. 1, 1900, in this county. On June 16, 1937, he was married to Elsie Clague. They made their home near Webster, where he engaged in livestock farming. Since 1956 they had made their home in Winterset, where they engaged in the antique business on a major scale.

He was a member of the State Bell association, and owned the largest brass bell collection in the state.

Mr. Sawyers was a member of the First Christian Church of Winterset, serving as a deacon as long as his health would permit.

Nearest survivors are his wife, Mrs. Elsie Sawyers of Winterset; and a brother Carl (Mike) Sawyers of Winterset. His parents and a brother, Raymond, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Friday from the First Christian church here, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
