Edna J. (Freeman) Warner, 98, of New Virginia died June 3, 2009, at Winterset Care Center South.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 9, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Jerry Kramer and Jory Hunerdosse officiating. Eastern Star services also were held the previous evening at the funeral home. Burial was at New Virginia Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the New Virginia Fire and Rescue or Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund.

Edna Warner was born Aug. 24, 1910, in Guthrie County to George Thompson and Serena Viola (Smith) Moore. She attended Valley Twp. No. 7 Country School through eighth grade, then transferred to Guthrie Center High School. During her high school years, she took training allowing her to become a teacher upon graduation from high school. In 1928, she began her four-year teaching career at the same country school she attended. Her marriage to Ross Freeman took place in 1932 and to this union four daughters were born. Edna was a homemaker and also helped manage the farm. Following the death of Ross in November 1957, she later married Donald B. Warner in 1964. Edna belonged to various clubs and received her 50-year pin and lifetime membership from the Order of the Eastern Star in 1997.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, Ross and Don; two brothers, Byrl Moore and Marion Moore; three sisters, Florence Scott, Helen McGivney and Eunice Winebrenner; and two grandchildren, Cynthia Rae Wood and Frederic Ross Wood.

She is survived by four daughters — Patricia Beardsley of Springfield, Va., Jeannine Wood of Osceola, Joyce Baughman of New Virginia and Dolores Marie Glafka of Vancouver, Wash.; and eight grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

Edna J. (Freeman) Warner, age 98 of New Virginia died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at the Winterset Care Center South in Winterset, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, IA.

Edna was born August 24, 1910, in Guthrie County in her parents', George Thompson Moore and Serena Viola (Smith) Moore, farm home. She attended Valley Twp. #7 Country School through 8th. grade, then transferred to Guthrie Center High School. During her high school years, she took the training allowing her to become a teacher upon graduation from high school. In 1928, she began her four year teaching career at the same country school she attended. While teaching, she met a handsome gentleman by the name of Ross Freeman. They were married in 1932, and to this union four daughters were born. Her life centered around her family, being a homemaker, taking care of the farm responsibilities and livestock as Ross worked in Des Moines for Iowa Power and Light. Ross passed away in November of 1957. In 1964, she married Donald B. Warner who passed away in November of 2001.

Edna belonged to various clubs and received her 50 year pin and lifetime membership from the Order of the Eastern Star in 1997. She enjoyed all her farming years, being in the outdoors, dealing with new life and nature, traveling, playing the piano, crocheting, working crossword puzzles, gardening and her flowers. Her family was her greatest joy and especially her great-grandchildren. Being able to share was a great gift of hers.

Edna is survived by her four daughters, Patricia Beardsley and husband Dan of Springfield, VA, Jeannine Wood of Osceola, IA, Joyce Baughman and husband Lonnie of New Virginia, IA, Dolores Marie Glafka of Vancouver, WA; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Edna was preceded in death by her husbands, Ross and Don; parents, George and Serena Moore; brothers, Byrl Moore and Marion Moore; sisters, Florence Scott, Helen McGivney and Eunice Winebrenner; grandchildren, Cynthia Rae Wood and Fredric "Rick" Ross Wood.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be open at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 8, with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Eastern Star services will be at 7:30 p.m. at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.

In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to the New Virginia Fire and Rescue or Winterset Care Center South Activity Fund.
