CAROLYN HAM, WINTERSET

Carolyn Ham, 75, of Winterset died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Winterset Care Center South. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, June 3) at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Burial was in Winterset Cemetery.

Carolyn was born May 6, 1934, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Homer and Evelyn (Clements) Danley. She grew up in the Johnston and Des Moines area until high school. The family moved to Earlham, where she graduated from high school in 1952. She was married on Feb. 12, 1954, in Madison County, Iowa, to Gailen Ham. They later moved to Winterset. Carolyn was a homemaker and had been a dog groomer, housekeeper and a factory worker at the former Eaton Corp. She also had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to dance, bowl, roller skate, sew and being outdoors. She enjoyed biking, walking and being with her grandchildren.

Carolyn is survived by her close friend, Gary Jones of Patterson; her sons, Tim Ham and Todd (Karen Vahey) Ham, both of Winterset; a daughter, Carol (Jesse) McFarland of Winterset; adopted daughter, Sue (Jim) Mease of Winterset; and grandchildren — April, Sarah, Justin, Kylie, Marissa, James, Jacob, Caleb, and Hannah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Home and Evelyn (Clements) Danley; her husband, Gailen Ham; an infant daughter, Connie; and twin brother, Merilyn Danley.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Memorials given to the family will be used for a future designation.

Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
