Mel Shoning, 70, of Winterset, died at his home Tuesday, May 26.
Mel was the first born to Bonnie and Robert Shoning. His family is left with many memories. He loved to camp, fish, read, and watch "old" western movies. He had been a member of the Dallcher Legion Post #632 in Melcher.
Mel is survived by his wife, Jenny of Winterset; mother, Bonnie Holt of Des Moines; son, Brian (Lori) Shoning of Knoxville; daughter, Brandi Phillips of Melcher; three grandchildren; brother, Robert (Linda) Shoning of Altoona; sisters, Lana Cox of Des Moines, Vickie (Stan) Pulaski of Chicago, IL, and Jean (Dick) Lester of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Patty Shoning of Des Moines; stepsons, Randy Archer of Des Moines, Alan Archer of Liberty Center, and Danny Reynolds of Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; and brother, Roy Shoning.
No services are planned.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley - Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
