Mehl Matthew Bequette, 77, died May 31, 2009, at Winterset Care Center North.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4–7 p.m. today (Wednesday, June 3) at the Patterson Community Building where the family will be present to receive friends. There will be no services or viewing, since Mr. Bequette has been cremated. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
Mehl Bequette was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Blackwell, Mo., to Joseph and Bertha (Pratt) Bequette. He married Joan Kruse and to this union five children were born. He later married Pat Tharp on Dec. 23, 1964, and to this union two children were born. Mehl worked as an electrician, mainly for commercial jobs. He was employed by AMF, which later was purchased by Western International. He retired from Martin Marietta.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Mary Bequette and Karen Bequette; and four brothers — Charles, Joseph and two infant brothers.
He is survived by his children — Gary Bequette of Wichita, Kan., Dan Bequette of Childress, Texas, Linda Steinbock of Shawnee, Kan., Jay Bequette of St. Charles, and Marti Christenson of Greenfield; a sister, Evelyn Thomas of Liberty, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
