Wednesday, April 23, 1919Death of CARL FIELDS
Tidings of the sudden death of Richard Carl Fields on Tuesday afternoon came as a great shock to Winterset people. Mr. Fields had not been well all winter, some heart affection being present, causing physicians to warn him that his death might occur at any time. At intervals he had been quite sick during the winter but yesterday he felt unusually well. He made three trips to the business section of town in the morning and went to the Ringgenberg farm to work. Mrs. Fields remonstrated with him, fearing he was over exerting himself, but he said he was unusually well, except for a peculiar feeling in his head.
He came home late in the afternoon, sat down and complained of not being well and died in a few moments. Mr Fields came from Indiana to this county about forty years ago when barely of age. Here he made his home and reared his family, five children, with their mother surviving him. His family will have the deep sympathy of many friends.
