HELEN MORROW, JOHNSTON

Helen Colleen Morrow, 81, died April 26, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston following a long battle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 29) at Ankeny Funeral Home.

Helen Morrow was born Nov. 25, 1927, in Winterset where she graduated from Winterset High School and lived until her early twenties. She later lived in Michigan, eventually moving back to Iowa to raise her family. Helen was employed at the Fairfield Glove Company and Hallmark Store, also in Fairfield, for many years.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold L. Brown of Houston, Texas, and her second husband, Howard R. Morrow of Fairfield.

She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly S. Brown and Michelle L. Rushing, both of Johnston; two stepdaughters, Marilyn Dorsa of New York and Linda Karr of Oklahoma; a brother, Duane Rinard of Winterset; a sister, Beverly McDonald of Winterset; and two grandchildren.

HELEN COLLEEN MORROW, Johnston

Helen Colleen Morrow went joyfully to be with her Lord forever on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after ending her very long, courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Ankeny Funeral Home.

Helen was born November 25, 1927, in Winterset, Iowa where she lived until her early 20's, graduating from Winterset High school. She later lived in Michigan, eventually moving back to Iowa to raise her family. She had a great love for horses and enjoyed raising them on her acreage. She was employed at the Fairfield Glove Company and the Hallmark Store uptown in Fairfield for many years, but Colleen's main profession in life was being a wonderful, loving mom and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Howard R. Morrow of Fairfield, and her first husband, Harold L. Brown of Houston, TX.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly S. Brown, and Michelle L. Rushing of Johnston; her two grandchildren, Tyler (14) and Kristin (10); brother, Duane Rinard and sister, Beverly McDonald both of Winterset; as well as step-daughters, Marilyn Dorsa, of NY and Linda Karr, of OK.
