BELLEZORA LUCAS, WINTERSET

Bellezora Lucas, 85, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Winterset. A visitation was held Monday, April 20, at Ochiltree Funeral Service. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society.

Bellezora was born March 16, 1924, in Madison County, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Ocein (Meade) Cooper. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1941 and her marriage to Clarence Lucas took place on Feb. 17, 1942, in Missouri.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Winterset and was active in several bridge clubs and various social and service clubs throughout the years. She loved playing bridge and enjoyed reading and walking. She and Clarence traveled extensively around the world, including several cruises. She was an excellent cook, but most of all she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Bellezora is survived by her husband, Clarence Lucas of Winterset; three daughters — Dianna Jencks of North Canton, Ohio, Kristin Hibbs and her husband, Dale, of Iowa City, and Marsha Freed of Winterset; a son-in-law, Bruce Woods of Des Moines; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Woods; her parents, Joe and Ocein Cooper; and eight brothers and sisters — Willard Cooper, Harold Cooper, Wayne Cooper, Alvin Cooper, Emery Cooper, Mae Lutz, Josephine Clark and Grace Atkins.
