Norbert J. Sitkiewicz, 87, of Peru died April 7, 2009, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 17, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset. Burial will be at a later date at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Chicago, Ill. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
Norbert Sitkiewicz was born June 19, 1921, in Chicago to Edward and Blanch (Minikowski) Sitkiewicz. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a sergeant in the military police — stationed in the southern Philippines, Japan and Maui. His marriage to Josephine Anna Foy took place Sept. 7, 1946, at St. Bartholomew in Chicago. They resided in Berwyn and Westchester, Ill., for many years and had lived in Madison County, Iowa, since 1982. Norbert was a truck driver for R and V Cartage in Chicago and also hauled for Spiegel’s. He later retired from CPE Printing Company. Following retirement, he read electric meters for REC in Greenfield. His memberships included St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chicago Truck Driver’s Union, and Independent Order of Foresters (of which he served as chief ranger).
He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward.
He is survived by his wife, Jo, of Peru; a daughter, Jonor K. Jones of Winterset; a sister, Theresa Duffy of Plainfield, Ill.; and two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
