Velma Anderson, 75, died March 19, 2009, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 24, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Dr. John Shaull officiating. Burial of the cremains was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to her family.

Velma Anderson was born March 10, 1934, in Madison County to Carl and Berniece (Cox) Phearman and was a Winterset High School graduate. Her marriage to Wallace Lee Anderson took place Jan. 25, 1955, in Winterset. Velma spent most of her life in Winterset, moving to Des Moines in 1988. She had been a certified medical assistant, working at the former Winterset Doctors’ Office for 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Claren L. Phearman.

She is survived by four daughters, Janis Hovland of Cambridge, Judi Althoff of Edgewood, Jill Bloom of Portland, Ore., and Joy Bosteder of Seattle, Wash.; and nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Velma Anderson, 75, died March 19, 2009 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m., March 24, 2009, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
Velma was born on March 10, 1934, at Madison County, Iowa to Carl and Berniece (Cox) Phearman. She was married on January 25, 1955 at Winterset, to Wallace Lee Anderson. She was a graduate of Winterset High School and had spent most of her life in Winterset. She had been a certified medical assistant and had worked at the former Winterset Doctors Office.

Velma is survived by her daughters, Janis (Nathan) Hovland of Cambridge, IA, Jill (Jeff) Bloom of Portland, OR, Joy (Terrence) Bosteder of Seattle, WA, and Judi (Bill) Althoff of Edgewood, IA; nine grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday from noon to 8 p.m., at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to her family.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
