JESSIE WHITE, Winterset

Jessie White, 92, of Winterset died March 17, 2009, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 21, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Burial was at Clark Cemetery in Madison County. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Madison County Historical Society. Funeral arrangements were handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.

Jessie White was born Jan. 31, 1917, to Oscar and Cora (Muir) Baker of Paola, Kan. Her marriage to Sidney Merrill White took place Sept. 4, 1934, in Des Moines. Jessie spent most of her life in Madison County and had been a nurse at Madison County Memorial Hospital from 1949 to 1982. In later years, she volunteered as a tour guide for the Madison County Historical Society. Her memberships included the First Christian Church in Winterset and the Rebekah Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Jim Baker and Walter Baker.

She is survived by one daughter, Kay Lindstrom of Winterset; two sons, Bill White of Sonoma, Calif., and D. Bart White of Urbandale; and five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

JESSIE WHITE, Winterset

Jessie White, 92, of Winterset, Iowa, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Burial will be in the Clark Cemetery at Madison County.

Jessie was born on January 31, 1917 at Paola, Kansas to Oscar and Cora (Muir) Baker. She was married on September 4, 1934 at Des Moines to Sidney Merrill White. She spent most of her lifetime in Madison County and had been a nurse at the Madison County Memorial Hospital from 1949 to 1982. In later years, she volunteered as a tour guide for the Madison County Historical Society. She belonged to the First Christian Church and the Rebekah Lodge. Jessie and her husband used to love to camp and Jessie enjoyed embroidering.

Jessie is survived by her sons, Bill (Carol) White of Sonoma, California and D. Bart (Marjorie) White of Urbandale; daughter, Kay Lindstrom of Winterset; sister-in-law, Kate Baker of Mineral Wells, Texas; grandchildren, Pam Lindstrom, Rick Lindstrom, Kevin Lindstrom, Debbie Lelis, and Brian White; seven grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Eunice Baker; husband, Sidney Merrill White; and brothers, Jim Baker and Walter (and wife Marian) Baker.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to 8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Madison County Historical Society.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley - Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
