Dale von Rentzell, 71, passed away suddenly on February 21, 2009 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham, Iowa, with burial in the Earlham Cemetery.
Dale was born on December, 8, 1937 to Lucy Mae (Coffman) and Albert Herman von Rentzell in Oakville, Iowa. Dale attended Earlham Community School and on June 8, 1957, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Deloros Jean Thompson in Maryville, Missouri. To this union four children were born. Dale worked in the heavy equipment/ mechanic field until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed tinkering on machines, woodworking, country music and spending time with the love of his life "Dee Dee".
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jean, Joan and Dennett; brother, Dennis; and his beloved wife of 49 years, Deloros. He is survived by his children, Donna (Jim) Carey of Winterset, Dale Jr., Dan, and Darrell "Butch"(Wanda) von Rentzell, all of Earlham; two grandsons; two great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great granddaughters; and brother, Dean (Joyce) von Rentzell of Earlham; sister-in-law, Jo von Rentzell of Lincoln, NE; brother- in-law, Don W. (Myrtle) Thompson of Greenfield; sisters-in-law, Sue Thompson of Leon, Ginger Thompson of Greenfield, Barb (Al) Farber of Earlham; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunt.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dale William von Rentzell Sr., 71, of Earlham died Feb. 21, 2009, in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Feb. 26, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Gideon Gallo officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery with military rites performed by Earlham American Legion Post 158.
Dale von Rentzell was born Dec. 8, 1937, to Albert Herman and Lucy Mae (Coffman) von Rentzell of Oakville and attended Earlham Community School. His marriage to Deloros Jean Thompson took place June 8, 1957, in Maryville, Mo. Dale worked in the heavy equipment/mechanic field until his retirement in 2000. He also was a certified small aircraft pilot, woodworker and carpenter. He became a member of Earlham American Legion Post 158 in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother, Dennis; and three sisters, Jean, Joan and Dennett.
He is survived by one daughter, Donna Carey of Winterset; three sons, Dale von Rentzell Jr., Dan von Rentzell and Darrell “Butch” von Rentzell, all of Earlham; a brother, Dean von Rentzell of Earlham; and two grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-granddaughters.
