Clara E. the daughter of James B. and Jane Starr, was born July 23d, 1876. In her girlhood, she professed a faith in God, and accepted Christ as her Savior, united with the New Hope organization of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, at Union Chapel, Lincoln township. Guided by a conscientious interpretation, earnestly endeavoring to follow her Savior's teachings, she grew to womanhood.
October 17, 1900, she united in marriage to Ellis E. Bertholf. Characterizing her married life by unselfish devotion, loyalty to her husband and home. To them, December 18th, 1905, was born a son, Halden Starr Bertholf.
From this happy little home Clara was summoned by death, January 9th, 1906, leaving her baby boy, her grief stricken parents, her affectionate sister, two brothers, fond friends and associates, to meet the reward of her life of almost thirty years of unselfishness and loyalty to her friends, loved ones, and her God.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett, of the Christian church in Winterset, from the Christian Union church ----, after which the remains were taken to ---------- the summons of the ----------- in the Clark cemetery. May God bless and comfort the remaining loved ones and relatives.

Clara E., the daughter of James and Jane Starr, was born July 23rd, 1876. In her girlhood she united with the New Hope organization of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, at Union Chapel, Lincoln township.
October 17, 1900, she was united in marriage to Ellis E. Bertholf, characterizing her married life by unselfish devotion and loyalty to husband and home.
To them December 18, 1905, was born a son, Halden Starr Bertholf. From this happy little home, Mrs. Bertholf was summoned by death January 9, 1906, leaving her baby boy, her grief stricken husband, her devoted parents, her affectionate sister, two brothers, fond friends and associates to meet the reward of her life of almost thirty years of unselfishness and loyalty to her friends and her loved ones.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. E. E. Bennett, of the Christian church of Winterset, from the Christian Union church at Ord.
