ROBERT SWANSON, WINTERSET

Robert O. Swanson, 85, of Winterset and formerly of Phoenix died Feb. 6, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.

Robert, the son of Robert G. and Florence Swanson, was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1942–45.

He is survived by his wife, Lila, of Winterset; three daughters, Karen Powell of Winterset, Karlene Stokka of Urbandale and Kay Ward of Arvada, Colo.; one son, Bob Swanson of Winterset; a sister, Ardis Almen of Oviedo, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

ROBERT O. SWANSON, Winterset

Robert O. Swanson, 85, of Winterset, Iowa passed away Friday February 6, 2009, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.

Robert was born on July 27 1923, in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert G. and Florence Swanson. After graduating high school he entered into the U.S. Navy in 1942 aboard the U.S.S. California until his honorable discharge in 1945. He married Vivian Stevens and together they had 4 children. They later divorced. Robert worked as an electrical journeyman all his life in Des Moines and Phoenix, AZ. until his retirement. Robert has been happily married to Lila Swanson for 26 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Florence; granddaughter, Jacque; great- granddaughter, Gwyneth; great-granddaughter, Dim- Ray; and step-son, Brad.

Robert is survived by his wife, Lila; sister, Ardis Almen of Oviedo FL; daughters, Karen of Winterset, Karlene of Urbandale, Kay of Arvada CO; Robert of Winterset; step-son, John of Goldon CO; step-daughter, Jean of Maplewood NJ; ten grandchildren; 15 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family or Mercy Hospice. A private memorial service to be held at a later date.
