Virginia “Ginger” Lee Jones, 85, of Winterset died Feb. 3, 2009, at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church or Ginger’s family. Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
Ginger Jones was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Jamaica, Iowa, to Leland A. and Myrtle L. (Haynes) Saum and was a 1941 graduate of Winterset High School. On Sept. 9, 1941, she married Hubert Jones in Maryville, Mo. Ginger was a homemaker and farm wife, helping Hubert on their farm in Scott Township in Madison County, She was a lifelong Winterset area resident other than the three years she and Hubert lived in Creston. She also wintered in Arizona for 30 years. Ginger was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Buffalo Gals, and Rebekah-Ruth Circle and was a former member of the Madison County Antique Association. She also belonged to the Golden Girls, a group of fellow 1941 Winterset High School graduates.
She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant brother, William Saum.
She is survived by two daughters, Garnalee Chandler of Winterset and Mindy Dresback of Creston; one son, Rodney Jones of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a stepbrother, Jack Easter of Spencer; a stepsister, Lynn Provost of Creston; and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Virginia "Ginger" Jones, 85, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009, in Winterset.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2009 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, at the First Christian Church in Winterset. Burial will be held in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church or Ginger's Family.
Survivors include two daughters, Garnalee Chandler and husband, Steve of Winterset; Mindy Dresback and husband, Rick of Creston; one son, Rodney Jones of Apache Junction, AZ; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a step-brother, Jack Easter and his wife, Jaque of Spencer; and a step-sister, Lynn Provost and husband, Rick of Creston.
