Mary Esther Zylstra, 23, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, died Friday afternoon, June 5 near Waterloo, Iowa, as a result of a one-car automobile accident.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

She is the daughter of Rev. Bernard and Jean Zylstra, former pastor of the Earlham Church of Christ.

Earlham Echo – June 18, 1987

Mary Esther Zylstra, 23, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, died June 5, 1987 in Waterloo, Iowa, as a result of a one-car automobile accident.

She was born May 18, 1964 in Viroqua, the daughter of Jean M. (Cahoon) and Bernard Zylstra. She was raised and attended elementary school in Burlington, Iowa and Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated from high school in 1982 at Earlham, Iowa.

She was baptized September 26, 1976 in Earlham. She graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree from Minnesota Bible College, Rochester, Minnesota, and was presently enrolled in nurses’ training at Rochester. She was employed at Woodside Nursing Home, Rochester.

She and Kevin Frerichs, of Steamboat Rock, Iowa, were engaged to be married on August 29, 1987.

She is survived by her parents, Bernard and Jean Zylstra, Wisconsin Rapids; one sister, Julia (Tim) Griner, Phoenixville, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Michael (Judy) Zylstra, Readstown, Wisconsin; Daniel and Andrew Zylstra, Rochester, Minnesota; her maternal grandmother, Esther Cahoon, Chippewa Falls; paternal grandparents, Herman and Wilma Zylstra, Sheldon, Iowa; one nephew, Brian Zylstra; one niece, Lisa Zylstra; aunts, uncles, and many relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Alvin Cahoon.

Funeral services were held June 9, 1987 at Landmark Christian Church, Hallie, with Pastor Ivan McDaneld and Professor Earl E. Grice, of Minnesota Bible College officiating.

Pallbearers were Steven Miller, John Navis, John Laird, Cindy Greeley, Beverly Evans and Jeff McEathron.

Burial was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
