Elizabeth A. “Betty” Meyer Hobbs was born to August and Mitilda Meyer on December 18, 1904 at Newton, Iowa and passed away August 22, 1986 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Betty grew up on a farm near Newton and attended Newton public schools. She moved to Des Moines in 1925 to work as a beauty operator. In 1934 Betty was joined in marriage to Morris J. Hobbs and they made their home in Des Moines where they were employed for several years in hotel and restaurant work. Her last employment was with Acme Cleaners from which she retired due to health reasons. She and Morris moved to Earlham in 1979.

Betty was preceded in death by her late husband Morris, her parents and one sister, Bessie Master. She is survived by two cousins, Agnes Hall, of Anaheim, California, and Helen Taylor, of Perry, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Young, of Redondo Beach, California.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday, August 25, 1986 at the Friends Church, Earlham, Iowa, with Reverend Eldon Cole officiating. Organ music was provided by Irene Cole and soloist was Bradley Cole. Pallbearers were John A. Fisher, Ronald R. Routh, Paul M. Schmidt, Rodger J. Routh, Bradley D. Cole and Brian L. Cole. Interment was in the Earlham Cemetery, Earlham, Iowa.
