August (Gus) William Lorenze was born in Cook, Nebraska on June 22, 1907 to John and Dora (Behrens) Lorenze and passed away April 21, 1984 at Madison County memorial Hospital in Winterset, Iowa.

On November 6, 1937 in Grant City, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Cleo Strauser. In 1941 Gus and Cleo moved to the Earlham vicinity, where he farmed until his retirement in 1979.

Gus was a very industrious person, who loved the land, animals and the outdoors. He was always ready to lend a hand to his neighbors and friends in time of need.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo and a sister, Hanna McGinnis, of Dexter, Iowa. Those very dear to him were a niece, Jan Christensen and her family, husband, Doug, Chad and Angie. Also, his two brothers-in-law and wives, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, John, George and Otto, and sisters, Anna, Otis and Louise Hohman.

On April 16, 1961 Gus was baptized into Christ and was a faithful member of the Earlham Church of Christ until his death. His passing saddens the hearts of his family, friends and loved ones.

Funeral services were conducted April 24, 1984 at the Earlham Church of Christ with Pastor Earl Menning officiating. Neal Hanley was the vocalist and Linda Applegate, organist. Pallbearers were Harry Skaggs, Harold Frey, John Mills, LeRoy Fuller, Michael Frey and Nick Boyle. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Mills, Von Fletcher, Frank Inman, Amor Routh, Joe Foley and Lyman Oaks. Interment was in Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Iowa.
