RUTH WAMBOLD, Creston

Florence Rebecca Ruth Wambold, 99, of Creston and formerly of Afton, died Jan. 9, 2009, at Winterset Care Center North.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 12, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston with Pastor Jim Morris officiating. Burial was at Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg. Memorials are to be established. Online condolences may be sent to www.powersfh.com .

Ruth Wambold was born May 2, 1909, in Virden, Ill., to Jasper M. and Fannie Melissa (Goodson) Leach. In 1916, Ruth and her family moved to the Macksburg area where she attended Macksburg area schools. In 1932, she married Elbert LeRoy Wambold in Grant City, Mo. They farmed in the Winterset, St. Charles and Greenfield areas until Bert passed away in 1952. Ruth then made her home in Creston and Afton where she worked as a cook for East Union School and Afton Care Center, while also doing custom laundry and ironing for those in the area. She attended the United Methodist Church in Afton.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Russell; a daughter, Dolores; five brothers, Mack, Hank, Frank, Glen and Eddie; three sisters, Viva McDonald, Edna Mincher and Marie Coover; a grandson, Randy Wambold; and a stepdaughter, Maxine Wambold.

She is survived by four daughters, Joan Wallace of Fontanelle, Kathaleen Tyler of Norwalk, Karen Fry of Creston, and Sue Allard of Stanhope; three sons, Donald Wambold of Fontanelle, Larry Wambold of Bloomfield, and Rex Wambold of Van Meter; a stepdaughter, Darlene Apple of Grants Pass, Ore.; and 34 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
