DAWN DELENE NELSON, North Charleston, S.C.

Dawn Delene Nelson, 28, of North Charleston, S.C., and formerly of Winterset, lost her 10-month battle with leukemia Jan. 8, 2009.

Dawn was the daughter of Steve and Christy (Honnold) Nelson. She filled her 28 years with many adventures as she traveled and lived her life to the fullest. Dawn attended elementary and junior high school in Winterset, eventually graduating from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., in 2003 as a television and multimedia major. She worked for ABC and ESPN doing logistics for sports events. She also worked as a flight attendant for Mesa Airlines. Her last job was with the Go To Team of Mount Pleasant, S.C., sending out camera crews for television projects. She always worked to live instead of living to work. Her smile and great sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who met her.

Dawn is survived by her fiancé, Mike Tiffee; parents, Steve and Christy (Honnold) Nelson; brothers, Steven Nelson, William Nelson, and Matthew Herren; sister, Becky Stover; grandmother, Margaret Green; and grandfather, Bill Honnold.

She and her fiancé and love of her life, Mike Tiffee, put together a computer blog, goshdawnit.com that followed her fight with cancer that everyone should see. This “blog” has registered about 60,000 views since its creation. Comments in the blog in the last few days showed that her character and struggle have touched and influenced many people all around the world. You can get to know her better by visiting the site. The blog also provides information on how you can help in the fight against leukemia.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset, Iowa, with burial in the Lorimor Cemetery in Lorimor, Iowa. Family will receive friends one hour before service time on Saturday. The funeral will be very casual as Dawn would have liked it. Instead of flowers, please give blood, register as a bone marrow donor, or donate to the leukemia society. You can make a difference.
