Earlham EchoObituary
Edna Elizabeth Eversull, daughter of Rolland C. and Eusebia Rigg Eversull, was born on their farm southeast of Stuart, Iowa, on September 2, 1870, and passed away January 28, 1957, at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 86 years, four months, and 24 days. She was the eldest of seven children, two of whom died in infancy. Three brothers recently preceded her in death. Two brothers, Joe and Harry Eversull, both of Stuart, survive her.
Edna grew to womanhood on the home farm and attended the rural school near her home. On January 22, 1892, she was married to Dayton E. Pryor, of Harrison township in Adair county. These established their home east of the parental Pryor farm, but later took over the farming of that homestead. For one short period they lived in Stuart, where Mr. Pryor owned a garage. For a year they farmed in Canada and Minnesota. For the remainder of their active lives they farmed in the Stuart and Earlham vicinities or lived in those towns. Edna and Dayton lived to celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1942 and also their sixtieth in 1952, before the husband preceded her in death in February, 1955.
Four sons came to bless the marriage: Clarence of Earlham; Ray, of Des Moines; and Walter, of Indianapolis, Indiana, survive. Glen, the second son, died when a small child. Edna was a devoted mother living anew in her sons’ successes and happiness and welcoming their wives as the daughters she had borne. She had a great capacity for love which was freely given her four granddaughters and two grandsons and to the seven great granddaughters. One grandson Rolland Pryor, gave his life for his country in the second World War.
Those surviving besides the sons, daughters-in-law, and brothers, and their wives Ada and Nora, their grandchildren: Ivan Pryor and Mrs. Marion DeVault, of Earlham; Mrs. Jerry Hoag, of Fort Dodge; Carma Rae Pryor, of Des Moines; and Joanne Pryor, of Indianapolis, the great granddaughters: Norma Jean and Karen Pryor, Jane and Susan DeVault, and Virginia, Linda, and Jerilyn Sue Hoag. Also left to mourn her loss are her sisters-in-law, Mayme and Jessie Eversull, her nephews and nieces, other relatives and her many friends.
