Obituary

The Dexter Community is bereaved in the passing of “Jim” Graham. A life-long resident of Dexter, he was born to George E. and Susie A. Russell Graham on March 27, 1900 and passed away September 20, 1986 at his home near Dexter.

On February 14, 1931 in Adel, Jim was united in marriage to Esther E. Hall and to this union one son was born, James Lee. Esther preceded him in death April 12, 1977.

Jim Graham deserves a eulogy. He was a true gentleman and the essence of his kindness. He loved life, his farm and people. During the late 20’s and 30’s he was a bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines. After his father’s death he took over the family farm until his retirement.

He was a loving father and grandfather and we will all miss him. He had a great sense of humor, and was long-suffering and gentle. We love “Jim” and in his passing Dexter has lost a good citizen.

Those left to mourn are his son, James Lee, his daughter-in-law, Hazel and three grandchildren: Lynda Graham of Des Moines, Suzanne Graham Rickels and her husband Michael of Ames and one grandson, Michael of Ames.

Funeral services were held September 23, 1986 at the Presbyterian Church in Dexter, with Reverend Al Polito, Jr. officiating. Music was provided by Nadine Shepherd, organist. Pallbearers were James Clausen, Arnold Schirm, Orville Grant, Kenneth Brinton, Willis Neal and Donald Hurst. Interment was at Dexter Cemetery. Professional arrangements by McKee Funeral Homes, of Earlham and Dexter.

Transcriber’s note: James Graham lived just outside of Dexter, Iowa in Penn township, Madison county, Iowa.
