Joseph M. Hobbs, the son of Joseph and Laura Roger Hobbs, was born Oct. 1, 1911 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He passed away at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on Oct. 2, 1980.
Services were held at the Earlham Friends Church, Oct. 4, 1980, with Pastor Eldon Cole officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Irene Cole, organist; and Brad Cole, soloist. Casket bearers were Wendell Beck, Don Bingham, Randy Bingham, Ricky Bingham, Burt Dye and Howard Street. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery. Professional services by McKee Funeral Home in Dexter and Earlham.
Joe graduated from Dana High School in 1929 and later spent two years in the Merchant Marines.
On April 12, 1934 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Meyer in Des Moines, Iowa.
Joe worked as a meat salesman for Cassons Meat Market for three years, also for Des Moines Dressed Beef Company and was manager of the Franklin Hotel for 15 years.
Joe and Elizabeth made their home in Des Moines until 1978 when they moved to Earlham.
Joe loved to raise roses and always enjoyed various carpentry projects.
Survivors include his beloved wife Elizabeth; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Young, of Rodondo Beach, Calif., and one brother, Emmett of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother John.
