Obituary

Doris Kalbach Marsh, the daughter of Samuel and Emily Cecil Pearson, was born Feb. 26, 1901 in Madison County, Iowa. She passed away at the Adair County Hospital in Greenfield on Oct. 2, 1980

Services were held Oct. 5 at the Fairview Congregational Christian Church in Adair County, Iowa. Rev. George Thurman officiated, with Robert Lawson, organist and Cindy Schroder, soloist. Casket bearers were Ronnie Lillie, Randy Lillie, Jim Kalbach, Dennis Kalbach, Steven Gunn-Smith, Mark Smith and Scott Smith. Honorary casket bearers were LeRoy Lillie, Robbie Taylor and Jack Taylor. Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery (Adair County). Professional services by McKee Funeral Home in Dexter and Earlham.

As a young girl Doris grew up in the Dexter area and attended Penn Township school.

On May 31, 1920 she was united in marriage to Roy S. Kalbach in Indianola, Iowa. Most of their married life together was spent farming south of Dexter. Five children blessed their marriage. Roy passed away in 1956 and Doris later moved from the family farm to Stuart.

On Dec. 24, 1958 Doris was united in marriage to Lawrence E. Marsh of Dexter. The couple lived in Dexter. Lawrence passed away in 1963.

Failing health forced Doris to spend a year in a Des Moines nursing home and approximately four years in the Greenfield Nursing Home.

Doris was a longtime member of Fairview Congregational Christian Church and the Fairview Working Band. During her years in Dexter she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the Twentieth Century Club and Garden Club.

Survivors include her loving children, Mrs. Marguerite Lillie of Earlham, Mrs. Evelyn Taylor of Lake Wales, Fla., Mrs. Alice Smith of Red Lake Falls, Minn., Kenneth Kalbach of Menlo and Donald Kalbach of Dexter; 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; also surviving are two stepchildren, Lila McMenamin of Dexter and Jim Marsh of Stuart; five step grandchildren and 14 step great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, three brothers and her husbands.
