George C. Mills, eldest son of George C. and Winifred Newsham Mills, was born January 18, 1911 at Macon, Illinois. He came to Earlham with his parents at the age of 6 and spent most of his years in this community.

On November 17, 1937 he was united in marriage with Pauline Nolte. Three children were born to this union—Patricia, Charles, and a daughter who died in infancy.

For a number of years, he was employed in the Earlham post office. In 1946 he and his family moved to a farm near Adel, returning after three years to a farm in the Worthington neighborhood. This remained their home until his death on January 1, 1976.

He was a faithful member of the Worthington United Methodist Church and took an active part in many other phases of the life of his community.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline, and two children—Patricia (Mrs. Richard Parker) of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Charles of DeSoto, a son-in-law Richard Parker, and three grandchildren—Brian, Beth and Michael Parker. One brother, Dale, Earlham also survives—besides three nieces, a nephew and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Services were held at the Earlham United Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 3. Rev. Donald Harbour officiated.

Casket bearers were Russell Applegate, Lloyd Clague, Joe Fleming, Wilbur Frederick, Paul Mark, and James Smith. Honorary bearers were Fred Gonseth, Rex Fuller, Aaron Howell, Dale Stanley, and B. G. Harris.

Interment was in the Bear Creek cemetery.
