Ward was generous hearted. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was devoted to his family, and especially enjoyed the grandchildren. Some of his happiest moments were spent with them gathered around him.

He united with the church when a boy and was a member of the Earlham Methodist church at the time of his death.
